Defining Celti-Pop By combining a traditional celtic style with a contemporary rock sound, the Sallymacs have created a high energy Irish-Rock show that will have everyone raising their drinks high in the air while they dance, shout, and sing along.
In the mid 90's, (British Singer/Songwriter) Mark Harriman crossed the Atlantic from Leicester, England to Memphis, TN, teaming up with (Producer/Engineer) Mark Yoshida to record his first U.S. release. The critically acclaimed album, "Karma Down" spawned original movie soundtracks for Showtime along with the song, "Bella's So Blue", which was featured on the MTV series Daria. Before traveling to the States, Harriman performed in a nine piece Irish band that toured throughout Europe. The wide acceptance of Celtic music by audiences everywhere had left a lasting impression. Harriman and Yoshida started performing together as an acoustic duo in 1997, combining traditional and contemporary Irish songs. Rocking 200 Years of tradition? It was time to add some rock to tradition. Todd Nichoalds (the Martini Age & Dynamo Hum) brought his drumming expertise to the group, locking in a solid back beat. Finalizing the Sallymacs' line-up is bassist Brady Howle (Good Question & Splitwater Creek). Coming from a bluegrass background, he was able to adapt easily to this celtic style. Yoshida adds traditional melodies on electric guitar while Harriman, keeping with tradition, plays the acoustic guitar in this Irish-Rock band. Some of the songs performed date back almost 200 years but with the band's arrangements, the Sallymacs are generating an exciting new sound. The Sallymacs have been introducing listeners of all ages to a different type of musical entertainment with great success. Anywhere and everywhere they go, these four musicians set the stage for an energetic Irish pub experience.
